Role of Empathy in Building a Great Company Culture

Obsessing about customers is important, but so is creating a culture where people take care of others and feel cared for. That’s why we put our values right on our website.

Let’s talk about company culture.

Part of the whole reason to start a company is to create the environment you want to be part of.

That’s why we put our values right on our website under shoreline.io/values.

While they’re all important, my favorite one is empathy.I want to create an environment where people focus on others (not on themselves) and try to understand and care for other people.

Knowing that they're going to be respected and appreciated allows people to bring their best, unique selves to work.

For me, empathy is a trait that underpins other crucial things, like:

  • Trust: I can’t trust somebody unless I feel like they're looking out for me and understand me.
  • Honesty: I won’t be comfortable saying what I believe to be true unless I feel like I'm in a safe environment.
